Bizlab – the innovation lab of the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science (DIIS) had its soft launch last week. ‘Soft’ because the actual physical lab is still under construction but the team currently has several projects already underway applying design thinking principles to some of the department’s core programs such as the administration of the R& D Tax Incentive and the Department’s staff performance management process.
At the core of Bizlab services is the end-user, both externally in the community and internally to the department. By ensuring all outputs are designed with a user critic approach the department as a whole will be able to deliver more powerful solutions in a time/cost efficient manner.
BizLab service offer has 3 key components:
- Projects – working with cross divisional project teams to embed design thinking methodologies and lead user research
- Consulting – ad-hoc interactions for advice or inspiration on new ways to tackle big challenges – through to facilitating workshops for your teams and applying fresh tools to push thinking
- Training and Capabilities – BizLab will offer a range of training offers in the over-arching field of User Experience deliver through the principles of human centered design. The Public Sector Innovation Network (PSIN) Secretariat has been placed in BizLab so you’ll be hearing a lot about the project outcomes and the work of the lab in developing broader innovation capabilities across DIIS.
